The rhyolites of the Estérel massif
0
0
Rhyolite, reddened by the presence of hematite in its structure, is the most representative rock of the Estérel massif. Among its different varieties, the most common is the ignimbritic rhyolite or amaranth porphyry from Estérel, rich in quartz phenocrysts and potassium feldspars. At the base of Mont Vinaigre, one encounters piperno rhyolitic characterized by the presence of flames, viscous fallouts welded to the heap of the ejecta embedded in the mass of the rhyolite. At its top, fluidal rhyolites, or pyromerides, display undulations linked to the lava flow.
