Interlocking puzzles by Poliakoff

0
On the left wall, this “Composition murale” (Wall Composition) was painted by Serge Poliakoff in 1967. The artist, born in Moscow in 1900, was linked to the Nouvelle Ecole de Paris and the post-war abstract movements in Europe. Using bold splashes of colour in non-figurative compositions, Poliakoff’s paintings are characterised by arrangements of interlocking puzzles. This Poliakoff’s work has belonged to the Unterlinden Museum since the 1980s. The sculpture that stands next to it is by Simone Boisecq. Entitled “Le Veilleur” (The Watchman), it is one of the nine works by the artist exhibited in the Colmar Museum.
