The wet meadows of Normandy

Wet meadows are expanses of herbaceous vegetation located in an alluvial (alluvial terraces, proximity to watercourses, wet flats) or depression (silt depressions, wet dune meadows) zone. Their vegetation composed of grasses, rushes, flowering plants, or meadowsweet has adapted to the humidity and temporary winter flooding. It is shaped by the cycles of grazing and mowing, agriculture and breeding being essential to its maintenance. As for their mineral or peat soils, they constitute real carbon sequestration sinks and contribute to the mitigation of climate change.
