The highest tides in Europe

Mont-Saint-Michel and the Chausey Islands share the highest tides in Europe. At the equinoxes, a bead of water flows from the Atlantic into the English Channel, and the relief of the coasts creates more or less strong waves that enter the Baie du Mont-Saint-Michel and the Chausey archipelago. It is not uncommon for the tidal range (difference between high tide and low tide) to reach 45 ft (14 m). The current record is held by the Bay of Fundy, in Canada, with 71 ft (21.6 m) in 1869.
