The beaches of Al Wakrah

The coastal town of Al Wakrah – 9.3 miles (15 km) south of Doha, Qatar – has two beaches set a few hundred metres apart: Al Wakrah Souq Beach, opened to the public in 2017, and Al Wakrah Family Beach. Al Wakrah Souq Beach also offers water sports and activities for a fee, as well as a large playground that opened in 2018 with football and volleyball facilities. The free Al Wakrah Family Beach, reserved for families with children, is one of the most popular beaches in the country. With an average depth of 2.25 metres and a temperature that varies from 66.2°F or 19°C (February) to 91.8°F or 33.2°C (September), the waters of the Persian Gulf are ideal for swimming which is practiced fully clothed.
