The collection of 16th century Venetian paintings on display at the Louvre is unique outside of Venice. The walls of the ‘Salle des Etats’, renovated in 2019, are clad in a midnight blue tone that highlights it. Titian (Tiziano Vecellio), Tintoretto (Jacopo Robusti), Veronese (Paolo Caliari) and Leonardo da Vinci made Venice, and now the Louvre, shine with their spectacular large-scale compositions such as ‘The Wedding at Cana’ (Veronese), ‘The Coronation of Thorns’ (Titian) and ‘The Deposition’ (Jacopo Bassano). The intimacy of ‘Man with a Glove’ (Titian) and ‘Portrait of a Gentleman’ (Tintoretto) can also be seen, as well as ‘Mona Lisa’ (Leonardo da Vinci).
