The Arctic tundra includes a diversity of prevailing landscapes located between the taiga treeline (boreal forest) and the permanent ice caps of the Arctic Ocean. It is composed of extensive lowlands, which can be traveled by sled or snowmobile, but also more rocky and even mountainous areas. In Canada, it covers the Northwest Territories and Nunavut as well as the northernmost parts of most other provinces.
