The Trent 900 engine titanium blades

The Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine belongs to the family of turbofan engines with high bypass. Its name is inspired by an English river – the “Trent” flows through the Midlands –, a tradition for the British engine manufacturer. Developed for the Airbus A380, the engine is 4.5 metres long and 2.95 metres in diameter. Its 24 honeycombed titanium blades reduce the effect of shock waves caused by high speeds. The fan cage is also made of titanium instead of the usual Kevlar. At the heart of the motor, the high-pressure shaft rotates in the opposite direction to the other two shafts for better energy efficiency.
