The Haut-Koenigsbourg fortified castle stands on a rocky outcrop, surrounded by 885 ft (270 m) of ramparts. The accommodations and the donjon extend in the center of the fortress. A drawbridge provides access to another interior courtyard where a hexagonal spiral staircase leads to the upper floors.
