Mentioned as early as 1264, the ‘Usine du bas’ in Dommartin-le-Franc (Haute-Marne) closed its doors in 1992. The buildings and machines were bought by the ASPM (association for the preservation of the metallurgical heritage of Haute-Marne), which transformed the metallurgical factory into a Conservatoire des arts de la métallurgie (Conservatory for the Arts of Metallurgy). Among the collections presented, the “modèles du Paradis” (Paradise models) is undoubtedly the most unexpected. Within an old hall, more than 650 artistic models are lined up on several levels: works in plaster, cast iron or terracotta, in all sizes, religious or secular.
