Unusual geological patterns punctuate the shores of Serre-Ponçon lake. Among them, areas of marl (photo) made up of sedimentary rocks consisting in a mixture of clay and limestone not very resistant to the action of erosion, cut the slopes and plateaus. They structure the landscape by creating strong contrasts of colors and textures with the surrounding vegetation and the water of the lake.
