The baskets of the Guédelon construction yard
0
0
The baskets - called mannes - made by the basket maker of Guédelon are omnipresent on the site of the castle under construction. They take various forms depending on the different workshops and have all kinds of uses. The masons' baskets are large cylindrical baskets, 1.5 ft (45 cm) in diameter, which can be used to transport sand, soil, or mortar. Light and resistant, they were widely used on medieval construction sites but were put to the test, especially during the transport of corrosive lime mortar, and had to be regularly repaired or replaced.
