The hairy lips of giraffes

0
The giraffe spots its food by sight and smell, but also thanks to the long hairs on its lips. These hairs protect the mucous membranes from thorns and transmit nervous information to the brain about the degree of maturation of the foliage. The giraffe exploits the most productive strip of vegetation in the savannah between 78 and 234 inches (2 and 6m) high, where the foliage remains tender in the dry season and the branches are richer in protein than grasses growing on the ground.
