The Golden Islands, lands of light
2
0
The Levant, Port-Cros and Porquerolles islands, located off Hyères, have been nicknamed 'Golden Islands' because of the golden light which illuminates them at sunset. These 'Lands of Light' - as Hélène André and Frédéric Gagliolo described them in the book they dedicated to them in 1957 have inspired many artists, painters and photographers. Among them, Henri-Edmond Cross restored in a canvas of 1891-1892 entitled 'Iles d'Or' the effects of light and colors by a very remarkable neo-impressionist technique.
