The Qetaifan artificial islands

For the past fifteen years, Qatar has been developing a range of spectacular real estate programmes on artificial islands. The Qetaifan Islands, located opposite Lusail – a new city 15 kilometres north of Doha – are the most recent example. The venture led by Qetaifan Projects – a real estate development company founded in October 2017 – is envisioned as an iconic landmark destination in Qatar. With a total area of 0.5 mi² (1.3 km²), the project is spread over two islands – Qetaifan Island North and Qetaifan Island South (pictured) – linked to each other and to the mainland by bridges. The North Island is intended to become Qatar’s first Entertainment Island. This vast complex already includes the 1,700,000 ft² (160,000 m²) Meryal water park and an inland lake overlooking the Persian Gulf. These will be complemented in the coming years by residential areas, luxury hotels, shops, private beaches, and green spaces.
