The fountains of Aix-en-Provence

0
The omnipresence of fountains contributes to the fame of Aix-en-Provence and recalls its ancient name, Aquae Sextiae (the waters of Sextius). In Roman times, 4 aqueducts delivering nearly 30,000m3 of water per day served the baths, fountains and patricians' villas. Today supplied by springs or canals, the city's 130 fountains consecrate water, both the origin and expression of the Provencal wealth.
