Fake rocks of La Castagna, a strange heritage

Before its recent urbanization, the peninsula of La Castagna was a military field. In the 16th century, it was a strategic location for the defense of Ajaccio for the Genoese. It was militarized again during the First World War and at the end of the 1920s. False rocks of ceramic fiber were built to hide blockhouses. One of them was made by Pasquier, the designer of the first replica of the Lascaux Caves.
