The Kanak ancestral dances are of three types : the speeches on the pole, the round dances and the imitative dances. They require the active participation of dancers but also of animators, town criers and speakers to condition the spectators and tell the origins of the different clans. The pole planted in the ground symbolizes the relation of the Kanak people to their ancestors, as for the broad and smooth steps of the dancers, they accompany the storytelling.
