The Unterlinden Museum in Colmar is one of the most visited museums of fine arts in France (186,000 visitors in 2019). Around the 13th-century cloister, collections from the 15th to the 18th century are displayed. The most famous work, the Issenheim Altarpiece, is housed in the former monastery chapel. Works of art from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries have not been forgotten: the underground gallery and the Ackerhof building, built in 2015 by the Basel architects Herzog and de Meuron, are dedicated to them.
