The meteorological climate, the altitude of the territory and the composition of the soil are key elements to judge the quality of a vine. These three criteria qualify the terroir of the wine produced. In Burgundy, wine producers have developed the culture of the vine towards excellence. The climat is a specific term given to the wine-growing terroir of Burgundy. Each climat is a parcel of vines, which has been demarcated by men for centuries, some since the Middle Ages. On July 4, 2015, the climates of Burgundy were listed as a UNESCO heritage.
