The American cemeteries in France
0
0
Among the American military cemeteries scattered around France, the Normandy American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer is probably the best known and most impressive. It contains the graves of 9,387 fallen soldiers; in total, more than 55,000 men are buried in France in the 12 military cemeteries of the two World Wars. The American Battle Monuments Commission is responsible for their management and maintenance. In Colleville-sur-Mer, the tone is set, as everything is designed so that the eye is always drawn to a line of white headstones, wherever you stand.
