The Pech-Merle cave in the Lot department is a showcase containing more than 700 prehistoric works, both created by nature or men. Authentic rock paintings adorn several panels of the approximately 4000 feet (1200m) of galleries accessible to visitors. Among them, the Punctuated Horses and the Black Frieze offer a window into the life of our ancestors. The creations of time on the surfaces of the cave are an imprint of the passing of the years and a visible memory of our planet.
