The castle of Haut-Koenigsbourg has an interior courtyard topped with wooden galleries. A copy of a 15th-century fountain, surmounted by a mermaid, is standing there. Further on, a hexagonal staircase, decorated with Renaissance stone lacework, provides access to the upper floors. Each balcony is adorned with medieval frescoes representing knights battling. The rooms of the princes' accommodations are in a row. The furniture, chests, and cupboards all come from local artisans. Wood paneling on the walls protects against the cold, and window seats, in wood or stone, are integrated under the windows. They allowed the ladies to benefit from a better light for reading or sewing.
