The Southern Alps
The Southern Alps form a natural geographical area mainly located in southern France. It is separated from the Northern Alps at the level of the water division between the hydrographic basins of the Isère and the Durance. The Southern Alps' very varied relief is mainly composed of mid-mountain pre-Alps with fairly high valleys but ridges below 8,202 ft (2,500 m).
