1,042 Pyxis arachnoides emerged from hibernation at the Tortoise Village

The Madagascar Tortoise village in Ifaty-Mangily is committed not only to the preservation of radiated turtles (Astrochelys radiata), but also of another species of turtle endemic to the arid environment of the south of the big island: the spider turtle (Pyxis arachnoides).
This species is listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List.
At the beginning of October, the 1,042 spider turtles (Pyxis arachnoides) at the Turtle Village emerged from their hibernation.
