Le muscari à toupet est une plante bulbeuse de la famille des Asparagacées selon la classification phylogénétique (précédemment classée parmi les Liliacées selon la classification classique). Elle mesure 30 à 60 centimètres de haut. Elle est cultivée comme plante ornementale. Les fleurs, sans odeur, apparaissent entre avril et juillet et ont une forme de grelot de couleur violette, ovoïde plus ou moins tubuleux. En France le muscari à toupet est commun à l'état sauvage.
