The Unterlinden Museum in Colmar is located in a former Dominican convent, founded in 1232 and dismantled during the Revolution. The most comprehensive collections of Rhenish art in France are on display in the 13th century cloister. In the chapel, the highlight is the Issenheim Altarpiece, sculpted by Nikolaus of Haguenau (1500-1505) and painted by Matthias Grünewald (1510-1515). The northern façade of the former convent, restored by Richard Duplat, chief architect of the Monuments Historiques, houses the main entrance of the museum since December 2015.
