The emblem of Normandy

The Norman cow is said to be of Viking origin, as the inhabitants of Normandy. Its temper is, however, much more docile and gentle, and its morphology brings it closer to Anglo-Norman breeds such as the Jersey. Others see it as a cross-breeding with Cotentin and Augeronne cows. Its dress is black and white spotted or brown and white. The breed's milk, rich in protein and calcium, contributes to the reputation of all Norman dairy products such as butter, cream, and Camembert.
