Gneiss rocks scatter in the Ribeauvillé forest, near Riquewihr. They take extravagant shapes the higher you go towards the Taennchel. They are attached to numerous legends. Giants would have brought the biggest rocks and used them to feast. Gnomes would disturb the forest at night, and the songs of fairies would be heard within the stones. The woods are also home to Celtic remains and cult basins carved out of certain rocks.
