On the outskirts of the town of Clécy, labeled a 'village of character in Calvados' since 2018, the Clécy Viaduct or Viaduct de la Lande is testimony to the development of French railways in the 19th century. This imposing bridge rises to 98 feet (30 m) high over a length of 354 feet (108 m) and spans the Orne River thanks to its nine arches. Construction of the Clécy Viaduct was completed in 1866 and the railway line that crosses it linked Caen to Flers. The Viaduct was inaugurated on May 15, 1873, and facilitated the discovery of the Norman Switzerland.
