The sculpture “Le Veilleur” (‘The Watchman’) placed in front of the wall was inspired by Simone Boisecq’s meeting with the philosopher Maurice Blanchot. Simone Boisecq was born in Algiers in 1922 where she studied drawing and sculpture. As a journalist at the AFP, she met Picasso, Brancusi, and Zadkine. She started sculpting and joined the Nouvelle Ecole de Paris. Her creations are inspired by the plant world and mythological figures. Boisecq made a major contribution to opening up a new path for French sculpture. Nine of her works are on display at the Unterlinden Museum.
