The Silver valley

The silver mine located below Tellure Park has existed since 1549. Since 2009, the caving routes of its via ferrata allow following the galleries, sometimes narrow, dug by human hands. When Collin Schwartz discovered the Saint-Jean Column in the 16th century, he triggered the silver fever to such an extent that the region is today known as the Val d'Argent (Silver valley). Between 2,000 and 3,000 miners arrived to work in the area, some bringing new techniques from Saxony for evacuating underground water. These innovations made it possible to dig deeper than ever before.
