The Pic de Bure (8,887 ft / 2,709 m) in the Hautes-Alpes department is the third highest peak in the Dévoluy massif after Obiou (9,153 ft / 2,790 m) and Grand-Ferrand (9,051 ft / 2,759 m). Like the whole massif, it consists of limestone rocks typical of the Pre-Alps. The Pic de Bure has a characteristic and easily identifiable shape with a summit plateau to the west and a 1,968 ft (600 m) high vertical pillar to the east. It dominates the winter sports resort of Superdévoluy, from which it is accessible on foot or skis.
