The third largest artificial lake in France

The lac d'Orient (Orient Lake) was created across the 1950s-1960s to regulate the Seine's level. It aims to reinforce the flows of the river and its tributaries during low water periods and to protect the Île-de-France region from flooding. With a 5,683 acres surface area (23 km²) and 205 million cubic meter capacity, it constitutes the third largest artificial lake in France, after Der-Chantecoq Lake and Serre-Ponçon Lake.
