The work of miners of old

Given the numerous silver deposits in the region, the mining tradition in the Vosges has existed since the Romans. Tellure Park extends above a network of galleries, some dating from the Middle Ages. Equipped with a hammer and a chisel, protected by a hood, and sitting on leather skin, men, women, and children dug these galleries in grueling conditions. The arrival of the first hydraulic machines during the Renaissance made it possible to dig wells up to 330 ft deep (100 m).
