Home to four Cathar castles

Lastours is a municipality located in the Aude department in the Occitany region. It is part of the Montagne Noire mountain range that constitutes the southern edge of Massif Central. The town is a vast archaeological complex home to four Cathar castles: Cabaret, Tour Régine, Surdespine, and Quertineux. They stand on top of a rocky base while the Castrum de Cabaret, the medieval village, extends deep in the valley.
