The territory of the commune of Marchastel

The commune of Marchastel is a locality that includes the villages of Marchastel and Rieutort d´Aubrac, as well as a few detached farms. It is located at an altitude of over 4,000 feet (1200 m) and has a population of 80 inhabitants. The village of Marchastel leans against a peak (Pic de Marchastel) from the top of which visitors can admire a magnificent panorama of the Aubrac plateau. The Bès river has its source south of the commune and then crosses and cuts the territory of Marchastel in two. Its waters used to activate several mills.
