The lucky charm of the Burgundian capital, the Chouette de Dijon (Dijon Owl) was sculpted in the 15th century on a buttress of Notre Dame Church built between 1230 and 1250. Quickly turned into the symbol of the city, it gave its name to Rue de la Chouette, which it overlooks. The interpretations concerning this sculpture are multiple: it is seen as the little owl symbol of Athena and wisdom ; as an eagle-owl, a tribute to the Dukes of Burgundy who lived in Dijon for a long time; as the discreet signature of the master builder Chouet who participated in the construction of the church; or as an incarnation of the Holy Spirit.
