In terms of fishing, France has an original historical standard favoring the notion of boss owner on board. It is the case of the artisanal fishermen of the Old Port of Marseille who are on-board bosses, owners of their boats that must not exceed 78.7 ft (24 m) in length. They can own a maximum of two crafts from 19.6 to 78.7 ft (6 to 24 m) and use multiple fishing techniques like trawlers, longliners, or gillnets. This highly diversified artisanal fishing, generally coastal but sometimes offshore, brings together most fishermen in Marseille.
