The old Moulins de Bagnol (Bagnol mills), now known as Moulin Cordier, are located at the bottom of the city of Béziers on the river Orb in the Hérault department. They constituted the starting point of a major technical feat. At their very location, a young self-taught inhabitant of Béziers who had become a hydraulic engineer captured the waters of the Orb in 1827. He then raised them towards the city center. Béziers hence became one of the very first cities in the region and France to benefit from a large quantity of excellent quality water at a time when drinking water was sorely lacking.
