The archaeological site of La Villasse in Vaison-la-Romaine corresponds to a rich and active district of the ancient Gallo-Roman city of Vasio. It includes streets, shops, and a spa complex behind which large mansions opening onto interior courtyards testify to a luxury reserved for wealthy populations. The north-south axis of the Rue des Boutiques made of large limestone slabs is one of the most prominent examples of Vasio's town planning. With a ground surface area of 16,404 square feet (5,000 m²), the Maison du Buste en Argent and its spa complex represent the most imposing of the urban houses unearthed on the site. The smaller Maison au Dauphin was a farm in the first century BC before being incorporated into the urban environment of Vasio in the second century AD.
