Characterized by a particularly low reproductive rate and a very slow life cycle, the varied spider monkey (Ateles hybridus) is among the most endangered primates in the world due to the disappearance and degradation of its habitat made of vast spaces of forest necessary for its nutritional needs. Its diet consists mainly of ripe fruits. Forest corridors are locally set up to reunite the different fragments of forest damaged by deforestation and livestock farming.
