Also known as the Pic Central de la Meije, the Doigt de Dieu (Finger of God, 13,034 ft / 3,973 m) is the second-highest peak of the Meije range in the Écrins massif. Located at the end of the emblematic Meije crossing, its usual route is mainly practiced on the descent. Its return ascent from the Aigle refuge at an altitude of 11,318 ft (3,450 m) is nevertheless possible and offers a two-day hike in a stunning high mountain setting. The first ascent of this landmark at the border between the Hautes-Alpes and Isère departments was made on June 28, 1870, and the first winter ascent on February 13, 1927.
