The Coronation of Napoleon

Painted by Jacques-Louis David between 1805 and 1807, the canvas whose full title is Coronation of Emperor Napoleon and Coronation of Empress Josephine, at Notre-Dame-de-Paris, December 2, 1804 , captures a moment of history. Against all usage, Napoleon wished to crown himself and crown Empress Josephine, despite the pope's wish to proceed with the coronation and coronation. Pius VII is content to bless the crown and Napoleon grabs it and puts it on his head. The painting represents the precise moment when the emperor crowned Josephine.
