The development of Domaine du Rayol dates back to the early 1910s and originates in the visionary desire of its owner Alfred Théodore Courmes to transform his Rayol valley covered with forest into an exceptional garden. It was also shaped by the know-how of the architect Guillaume Tronchet and the landscape designer Pierre-Victor Halary. Structuring elements, such as a gardener's pavilion, a pergola with Tuscan columns, stairs and benches in rockery, an ancient well, terracotta jars, or a grotto, were created and staged the park in a fusion between architecture and nature. The various focal points are linked to each other by a main alley and winding ancillary paths, the route of which follows the hilly topography of the site while providing remarkable perspectives.
