The last glacial and fluvioglacial periods played a decisive role in the formation of the Sancy stratovolcano’s particular shape. The ice loosened the multiple needles and dykes that punctuate the landscape, hollowed out valleys by clearing out the most fragile deposits and, during their withdrawal, participated in the creation of large scree aprons on the valley slopes.
