The alpine profile and sharp ridges of Puy de Sancy make it seem significantly higher than its 6,184 feet (1,885 metres). Highest point of the Massif Central, right in front of the Plomb du Cantal which follows it closely, it impresses with its summit pyramid which dominates steep corridors on its jagged sides, bristling with many needles and dykes (lava supply ducts that became unearthed due to erosion).
