The construction of Clos de Vougeot began in the 12th century, undertaken by Cistercian monks. Little by little, the castle was renovated and a well, a dormitory, a kitchen were added... This old stone well is 20 meters deep. Its pulley system helped the monks to bring up the buckets of water they needed to live and to produce their wine.
