The product of a tradition initiated in 1887

The production of Clément agricultural rum in Martinique perpetuates a tradition initiated in 1887 by Doctor Homère Clément and his son Charles on their Le François estate. It is produced from the direct distillation of pure sugar cane juice grown on the plantations of Habitation Clément. Since 1996, it strictly respects the new rules implemented by the Martinique AOC label obtained in 1996. Between 1887 and 1917, Homère Clément delivered its sugar canes to Le François central factory. In 1917, the distillers of the colonies were encouraged to increase their production as traditional French regions of alcohol production partly under the front could no longer support the war effort. Homère Clément therefore built a distillery in place of his old sugar refinery and resumed the processing of sugar cane. Upon his death in 1923, his son Charles Clément devoted himself to the development of the distillery and of the Clément brand, which he carried until his own death in 1973. Since 2005, the Habitation Clément estate has housed the Fondation Clément and its actions in favor of the cultural heritage of Martinique on a site still in activity and listed as a Historical Monument in 1996.
