The principle of suspension bridges
0

A suspension bridge - like this one in Cézy over the Yonne river - makes it possible to cross a river with a minimum of support by distributing the loads throughout the structure of the bridge. Suspensions support the central area of the deck and transfer its weight to the cables. Their parabolic shape distributes the weight between the deck, the pylons and the cables. Bridges of this type developed especially from the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.
